One thing that I love the most during summer is the late-night dinners with my friends. As we absorb vitamin D, we all gather in my backyard around BBQ dishes. I love soaking up the sunshine, that’s why I made sure to get a place with a garden big enough to host a bunch of my people.

As you know from the content of this blog, I am a foodie. I love tasting new recipes, combining new flavors and sharing my culinary adventures with people. The abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown during summer makes me want to cook even more. I have recently tried a couple of new BBQ recipes that you might be interested in trying:
Barbecue sesame sweet potatoes fries
Ingredients:
- 6 sweet potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 chopped garlic
- 1 tbsp chopped ginger
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 juiced lime
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (black preferred)
- 50g crushed non-salty peanuts
- 1 sliced green chili
- ½ chopped bunch of spring onions
Light your barbecue to a temperature of approximately 180C-160C fan/gas mark 4. After peeling and cutting your sweet potatoes into wedges, arrange them on a large tray. The sesame dressing is very easy to make: in a bowl, mix the oils, garlic, ginger, soy and lime juice. Pour the mixture into your potatoes wedges and mix it all up with the peanuts and the sesame seeds. Let it cook on your grill until the potatoes are soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. For more flavor (and to add some decoration), I like to sprinkle my BBQ sweet potatoes with spring onion and green chili.
Brazilian Churrasco grilled meat
Another thing I love to do during summer is themed dinners, around a country, a color, an ingredient. A few weeks ago, I chose Brazilian-style BBQ. As I was browsing on the internet, I came across the story behind the Brazilian Churrasco, which is grilled sausage and picanha beef. For a full Brazilian experience, I recommend enjoying it with a delicious caipirinha drink.
Ingredients:
- 1,5kg (3lb, 4oz) beef
- 1,3kg (2lb, 3oz) Toscana sausages
- thick salt
- seasoning of your choice
When selecting your piece of beef, make sure it is no larger than three pounds ask your butcher to cut it like so: thinly sliced with the fat always on top (cutting perpendicular to the fiber). Season the meat with thick salt and grill it at a medium heat. The traditional Brazilian beef is served rare to medium.
While your beef is cooking, you can grill the sausages in the side: I would suggest you choose Italian sausages for flavor. You can always season your sausage with spices of your choice, but for the sake of the recipe, I wanted to keep it traditional. If you are friends are big meat-eaters, they will love this recipe!
Grilled Watermelon

I was always skeptical of grilled watermelon. The texture and the flavor of the fruit did not seem like it would be a good BBQ food. During an improvised girl’s night, we were looking for some original dessert recipes and as I had a watermelon at home, I figured we could give it try. Food adventures, good or bad, are still memorable when shared with your friends. It turned out to be such a great snack! I have been preparing it for dessert every time I am hosting a barbecue dinner at home. Here’s my own recipe:
Let me know if you try any of these recipes, and don’t hesitate to share your summer BBQ tips with me!
