I just love how easy it is to keep Phoebe happy. Well, most of the time at least. Usually, all it takes is a few toys, some snuggles, and quality cat food and treats. We do have some off days where he does everything his little brain can think of to get outside. He’ll lay in wait, wiggle his butt, and dart to the door anytime it’s open, giving you the “what, I’m a cat” look when you catch him. If he wasn’t so darn cute I might get upset with him when he tries to escape. But, there are lots of neighborhood cats that he wants to socialize with, so I can’t blame him. I just go the extra mile to keep him in and keep him happy and ultimately safe.
Keeping him healthy means more than just keeping him inside though. It’s a full-time job filled with regular vet visits, careful monitoring, and reading labels. Speaking of labels, do you know what to look for on your cat food and treat labels? There are some key ingredients that quality cat food has like protein, taurine, and vitamins.
Moreover, there are some ingredients you want to avoid giving to your pet, like
- Butylated Hydroxyanisole
- Butylated Hydroxytoluene
- Food Dyes
- Propylene Glycol
It’s scary what some companies will put into cat food just to save a buck. That’s why we stick with brands that dedicate themselves to improving and maintaining a healthy feline lifestyle. Phoebe has been on the Wellness® Complete Health™ line of cat food for a few months now. Not only is his fur shinier, but he’s more active and full of energy. And he’s not shedding like he did before we switched cat food. These are signs of a happy and healthy cat! The food has all the ingredients we want, and none that we don’t. It’s carrageenan-free
We’re still working on keeping him content inside, and I think we’re making progress. Whenever he starts to get stir crazy, I sprinkle some catnip on his bed or toys, and that works for a while. We stick with mainly wet food but will give him some dry as a treat from time to time. Since the new Wellness Complete formula is grain-free I have no problem letting him indulge. I’m trying not to spoil him too much, but with a face like his, that can be difficult!
