The biggest hurdle I’ve faced in my pursuit of a healthier lifestyle is my snack food cravings. I think that’s true for a lot of people so I wanted to share my latest better for you snacking find. I’ll preface this by letting you know my strongest cravings are for chips. It’s not so much the flavor of the chip I crave as the crunch. I love kettle cooked chips because the crunch is so intense and the thicker chips are so much more satisfying. We all know that despite how much we may love them, potato chips are one of the worst for you snack foods on the market, being high in carbohydrates, saturated fats, and other no-no ingredients. That’s why when I found Blue Diamond Nut-Thins I was able to not only jump that troublesome hurdle, but I cleared it with miles to spare! They are crunchy and crispy like a potato chip and sturdy enough for dips and toppings!
Blue Diamond Nut-Thins are wheat and gluten free, making them great snacking options for people on restrictive diets. They are made with real Blue Diamond® Almonds and have no artificial flavors. Blue Diamond Nut-Thins are also packed with 3 grams of protein and come in at only 130 calories for 16 crackers. The best part though is that Nut-Thins are cholesterol, sugar, saturated fat, and trans-fat free! There are even lower sodium options available for an even better for you snack.
I’ve been keeping a few boxes on hand to satisfy me when cravings kick in. They’re almost the same crispy, crunchy texture as a kettle cooked chip, thick and crispy. They’re also incredibly tasty, especially with a creamy dip like my Chipotle Queso Dip. I keep mine simple:
1 cup of light sour cream + 1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar + seasoning (1/2 tsp. cumin, 2 tbsps. chipotle powder, 1/2 tsp. cracked black pepper, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1/4 tsp. onion powder).
The most time-consuming part is melting the cheese, which takes less than 2 minutes in the microwave! From there you just mix it all together and enjoy, or you can refrigerate it for a nice refreshing dip on a hot day. You can also add in fresh veggies for a super savory dip, I’ve just found this chunk-free version to be more kid and picky eater friendly.
Blue Diamond Nut-Thins come in many flavors and they even mix up the main ingredients! There are Nut-Thins made with almonds, pecans, and even hazelnut. I found these gems on an earlier Food Lion grocery shopping trip, in the cracker aisle. Use the product locator to find a retailer near you who carries Blue Diamond Nut-Thins. My favorite flavors (so far) are the Pepper Jack Cheese and the Pecan Nut-Thins. I’m still working on trying all of the flavors but I have yet to find one I don’t like.
