When I was in my early teens a friend’s mom opened a coffee shop in my hometown. I had never been a coffee drinker, but that soon changed. Along with coffee, the coffee shop offered fresh baked goods, among crullers and bearclaws was biscotti.
What is Biscotti?
Biscotti is small, crisp rectangular twice-baked cookies typically containing nuts, made originally in Italy.
My first coffee experience was paired with my first biscotti experience. I’m not sure which got me hooked but like Julie Andrews sang, These are a few of my favorite things.
When I got to try Nonni’s Foods’ Biscotti (sent to me for review purposes) I was stoked. I got to try the new limited-edition treats, Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti and Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Biscotti. I also go to try the returning Pumpkin Spice Biscotti and Gingerbread Biscotti.
Nonni’s Biscotti is made using real ingredients. They’re a guilt-free pleasure weighing in at only 110 calories per piece. That means I can snack on them without worry, and enjoy them in the morning with my coffee.
There’s no rule that says you can only enjoy biscotti with coffee. You can eat them plain, or my personal favorite, dip them in hot cocoa!
The flavors I received are great, and it’s impossible to choose a favorite. The Gingerbread and Milk Chocolate Hazelnut are tied, with Dark Chocolate Pumpkin coming in as a close second. I wasn’t especially crazy over the Pumpkin Spice biscotti, but my grandmother loved it.
When you dip these into coffee or cocoa they soften up almost instantly. They soak up the beverage and when you bite into it, you get a mouthful of goodness. Moist and tasty – with all the right textures. I think the texture is why I really like the Milk Chocolate Hazelnut, the pieces of hazelnut contrast with the soft cookie after it’s been dipped.
You can find Nonni’s Biscotti on shelves at retailers like Walmart, Target, and Costco. For a complete list of locations use the product locator at nonni.com. You can also order online from Amazon.com.
