Where to get inspiration

If you aren’t sure what exactly you want from a kitchen update, you just know you want something new or different, go to Pinterest! There are also a number of magazines, online and print, with tons of inspiring kitchen photos. You will no doubt be drawn to a few so pick and choose your favorite elements to truly make your kitchen your own. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Replace/Reface the cabinets

A simple coat of paint, or entirely new fixtures, it’s up to you. Changing the look of your cabinets is something you can do yourself and if you’re creative you can do it on the cheap. Use a latex satin finish paint on your current cabinets or go to thrift stores to find antique /in need of TLC cabinets and doors.

Get a new color scheme

If it’s been a while since you’ve changed the kitchen’s color scheme this is a great time to do it. You can go all out and change everything, or keep it simple by just doing frames and/or accents walls. There are options besides painting and the results will be wow-worthy. Be creative with textures and colors and don’t be afraid to make it pop!

Get new hardware

If you want to keep it simple just change out the knobs to your cabinets, or go big and update your entire sink. You can find used/antique sinks online or locally using Craigslist, eBay, Facebook sales groups, thrift stores, etc… I’m a fan of farmhouse sinks and the round bowl sinks. I think they’re both gorgeous and I’ve seen lots of them for sale for less than $10! This is a pretty easy DIY project as long as there’s no extensive plumbing involved (if you want a deep-set sink but don’t have the correct pipe fittings, etc.. )

Build an Island

If you have the needed space, an island is a wonderful kitchen addition. I’ve found several creative DIY kitchen island projects but this one is my favorite.

Add some splash to your backsplash

Every time I look there is something new for the kitchen’s backsplash. These are essential for keeping grease and other liquids from splashing and staining your kitchen walls. Ideally, you want something that you can just wipe stuff away from. There are many styles, colors, and materials, so whatever theme you’re going for you can find the perfect backsplash material.
